Wharton MBA Admissions Process

Submitting Your Application

You may begin your online application at any time during the admissions process. You can add to and edit any information on your application until you submit the completed application. All information, including supporting documentation, must arrive in our office by 5:00 p.m. ET on the deadline date for a given round for you to be considered for that round. Applications submitted after a deadline will automatically be considered in the next round.

Applying to Special Programs

The MBA/MA–Lauder Program or dual degree programs require a special application process. Check the interdisciplinary program pages for more information.

Checking Your Status

At each step of the application and admissions process, you may check your status on the online application system. Statuses include:

  • Submission of application
  • Application is complete (lists all items submitted)
  • Application is incomplete (lists items submitted and missing)
  • Invitation to interview
  • Admissions decision (e.g., admit, deny, waitlist, waitlist continue)
  • Matriculation

Admissions Interview

Interviews are by invitation only, following a thorough review of your completed application. Instructions are provided at the time of invitation. Interviews are conducted worldwide by staff and students. All interviews carry equal weight in the admissions process. No applicant is admitted without an interview.

Admissions Decisions

Admissions decisions are made in a series of three rounds. There is no particular order in which interview invitations or final decisions are released. Decisions are announced via email, and an effort is made to call every admitted candidate. Decisions are also posted to your online account.

Admitted students are invited to one of our welcome events at the school to aid them in making their decision to attend. Full details about the matriculation process, academics, careers, and Philadelphia are also provided.

FAQs: Online Application

The following FAQs refer to using the online application system to check the status of your application. All MBA students can check their application status; this service is not currently available to applicants to the Wharton MBA Program for Executives. As soon as decisions are made, Wharton also displays the decision letter. This is a secure environment, so only the applicant can access his or her information.

How does the system work?

You may already have an account on the Wharton Web Application System if you have completed your profile through the “Let’s Get Acquainted” Form, or if you started or completed your MBA application through the Wharton Web Application System.

If you encounter problems logging on, please email mbaoperations@wharton.upenn.edu.

When should I check the online system (myWharton MBA) after submitting the application?

You should allow 3 weeks for us to process your online account and update your online status to reflect receipt of your online application and any supporting materials.

Will I receive an email when decisions are made? How do I know when to check the system?

You will receive an email each time your status changes, this includes when we release a decision. Once you receive an email, then you need to check your status online (the email only indicates there is a change, it does not indicate what the change is).
