International Study Opportunities
Wharton’s MBA students gain global perspectives and skills from their classmates, their classes, learning opportunities in the international business environment, and a curriculum that encourages cross-cultural collaboration and engagement. You will already be immersed in a global community at Wharton as about 1/3 of our students are from outside the U.S. each year.
International Programs
Wharton offers three primary international programs in addition to the required global-focused core classes, international dual-degree programs, and consulting opportunities in emerging countries.
Global Modular Courses (GMC)
You will experience short, full-credit courses in an intensive workshop format in a country relevant for the topic (e.g. health care delivery in Hyderabad, India). Since 2012, courses have been offered in Brazil, China, India, Israel, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
Global Immersion Program (GIP)
You will get a high-level survey of the economic, cultural, and geo-political drivers behind regions integral to the global economy, then experience it in-country. Since its creation in 1993, more than 1,800 Wharton MBA students have participated in the GIP elective.
Combined International Studies Degrees
You can combine your Wharton MBA with full interdisciplinary degree programs in International Studies through the following institutions:
University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute
The MBA/MA Lauder Joint Degree in International Studies combines foreign language skills with a passion for international business by integrating the Wharton MBA program with an MA program in international studies from Penn’s School of Arts & Sciences.
Wharton + Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies Dual Degree
This three-year, MA/MBA dual degree program, offered by Wharton and the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of The Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C., prepares students to operate in both business and the international political environment. Students earn an MBA from Wharton and an MA in international relations from SAIS, a program that pioneered area studies and the integration of international politics and economics. While in Washington, students have access to Washington’s resources and to leaders in foreign policy and international trade.
Wharton + Harvard Kennedy School MPA/MBA and MPP/MBA Dual Degrees
These three-year, dual-degree programs, offered by Wharton and the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) prepare students to operate in both business and public policy or public administration fields. For students with an interest in crafting solutions for public problems across business, government, policy, and more, the dual degree MBA in public policy may be the path for you.
Wharton-INSEAD Alliance
This integrated exchange with INSEAD allows Wharton MBA students to explore interests in Europe and Asia through INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and Singapore. Since the inception of the Alliance in 2001, more than 1,000 students have participated in the exchange.
